FAQs

I’ve never talked to anyone. I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren’t people who go to therapy weak?

Absolutely not. Those who seek help are aware of their needs and demonstrate the courage to reach out. It's entirely normal for everyone to require assistance at various points in life. In our collaborative efforts, I will guide you through the process of exploring and recognizing your strengths. Together, we'll devise strategies to leverage these strengths, diminishing the impact of the challenges you are currently confronting.

What’s the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?

The distinction lies in the expertise that comes with training and professional experience. A mental health professional possesses the knowledge and skills to guide you through your challenges in a systematic and effective manner. They can introduce new perspectives, teach valuable skills, and provide a non-judgmental space for you to express yourself openly. Importantly, counseling is entirely confidential, ensuring that your personal matters remain private.

Sharing your concerns with a friend or family member, while well-intentioned, may carry the risk of altering your relationship dynamics. If you've been confiding in someone close to you about a situation that triggers intense negative emotions, there's a potential for you to distance yourself from that person once you start feeling better, as a means of avoiding reminders of that challenging period in your life. Consulting with a mental health professional helps maintain a neutral and confidential space for effective support and guidance.

Why shouldn’t I just take medication?

While medication can be effective, it's important to recognize that it alone cannot address all issues. In some cases, a combination of medication and counseling proves to be the most beneficial approach. Our collaborative efforts are tailored to delve into and understand the challenges you are facing. Together, we will unpack these issues and focus on identifying your strengths, utilizing them as tools to achieve your personal goals. The integration of counseling provides a comprehensive and holistic strategy to navigate and overcome complexities of your unique situation.

How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?

Certainly, because each person brings unique issues and goals to counseling, the therapeutic approach will vary based on individual needs. I customize my methods to align with your specific requirements, ensuring that our sessions are tailored to address your distinct challenges and aspirations.

How long will it take?

Regrettably, it's not feasible to provide a specific timeframe in a general FAQs page. The duration of counseling varies for each individual, contingent upon factors such as your personal development aspirations, commitment, and the specific issues motivating you to seek counseling. The process is highly individualized, and the timeline for accomplishing your goals is influenced by the unique circumstances surrounding your situation.

I want to get the most out of therapy. What can I do to help?

I'm pleased to know that you are committed to maximizing the benefits of our sessions. Your active participation and dedication will play a pivotal role in the success of our collaborative efforts. Together, we can work towards achieving your goals and fostering positive outcomes.
